9 Months Later

It’s time!

The moment Travis Jenkins and his new wife Stefanie have been looking forward to for 9 months.  Grabbing everything in sight: car seat, overnight bag, clothes, and diapers.  Heading to the hospital for the moment that would change their lives… forever.

For Travis Jenkins at that moment: “It wasn’t really any one specific thought or really any series of thoughts that would make sense conversationally,” he said.  “It was just raw happiness and excitement.  Like an adrenaline rush of pure joy.”

Finding out you’re pregnant before being married can come as a huge surprise for family and friends alike.  However, for these two, after dating for four years it wasn’t quite the shock they were expecting.

“I still have a picture of how Aunt Chelsea reacted, smiling from ear to ear,” she said.  “And I’ve never seen Travis’ mom and my mother so happy they cried, they somehow knew it was coming.”

For Travis’ mother it was more than that: “After the joy of raising your own children the most wonderful thing in the world is having grandchildren.  As I watch my son and daughter-in-law with Jamie, I know they will succeed,” she said.  “His Dad and I wanted to be sure our kids had plenty of our most valuable time.  We did not have tons of money, but we had lots of time and love. As I watch Travis with his son, my heart is full and I feel like we gave him the tools become the man and father he is now.”

Having a family was always apart of the plan for the Jenkins’.  Though it was more in the long-term plans.  They had often talked about a long engagement, and a big traditional wedding with family and friends by their side.  Their ideal goal was to be completely settled down before starting a family.

But every thing happens for a reason and life has a way of surprising you with the greatest gifts.

Having a baby means enormous lifestyle changes.  For the Jenkins clan, it put into perspective the money they would need to save in order to support this growing family as well as the time and patience it would take to do this together.

Finding that balance is not easy.

“It’s definitely something to get used to,” he said.  “I always tell people it’s a learning process and that it’s only our first time.  We make sure it’s 50/50 and all of the pressure isn’t only on one of us.  We alternate so we each get that very special time spent with him and with each other.  Not to mention date nights are a must!”

Travis has his dream job and Stefanie couldn’t be happier where she is in her career, but, if it were up to her, if they had the money, she would stay home everyday of the week to be with their little boy.

She said, “having Jamie laugh for the first time, hearing that around the house and just wanting to be there for all the ‘firsts’ makes it really hard to go to work in the mornings.”

Almost one year later they’re about to celebrate baby Jenkins’ 1st birthday on May 31st with a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse theme.  One of Jameson’s very favorite shows to watch.

With all these incredible changes, this growing Jenkins family has all the love in the world, you can see and feel it just by spending time with them.  Though everything didn’t go according to plan, from the very beginning, that love has only gotten stronger with their little addition: Jameson Liam Jenkins.
